Kapow! Student Ministries

Youth today face different challenges than most of us did as teens. However, they still long for transparent, meaningful relationships and a purpose in life’€”along with a little bit of fun! Our vision at Wesley is to help middle school and high school students know Jesus Christ and grow in their relationship with him through life impacting experiences. These experiences include fun, Christ-centered events, Bible study, service, missions and fellowship
(1st Timothy 4:12).

Purpose

•   To know the students 6th grade’€“12th grade (Ezekiel 36:9a)
•   To be an example for students (Titus 2:7)
•   To teach youth how to make decisions that will positively affect their lives
(John 15:10-12,   Romans 6:12-14)
•   To motivate a high level of participation and create a ‘€œget involved’€ attitude (Acts 2:42-47)
•   To persuade youth that God has a definite plan for their lives and that they are created to be servants
of His Kingdom (Ephesians 2:8-10, Jeremiah 29:11)
•   To encourage one another (Hebrews 10:24-25)

Student Fellowship Hour

Before the Worship Service on Sunday morning, our Student Fellowship Group (Sunday School) meets at 9:30. Fellowship Groups provide time for students to get to know each other and the Lord in a more personal setting. Our goal is to apply godly principals to our everyday lives.

Fellowship Groups use different media and methods to help students learn and grow. There is big group time that includes video, reading and discussion. There is also small group time that allows the students to dig deeper into what they are reading and learning, while helping them to apply it to their everyday lives.

Bible Quizzing

Our Bible Quiz team meets on Wednesdays from 5-7 pm at the Church. Quizzing is for students in 6th-12th grade. Each year the Free Methodist Church assigns the team what books to learn and study. There is a quiz meet once a month where students compete to answer questions about what they have learned. This year the teams are studying Hebrews and 1&2 Peter.

The students are preparing to attend Nationals in Seattle, Washington in the summer of 2012. They are studying hard as well as putting together fundraisers to help pay for the trip. Prayers for their endeavors are much appreciated!

Volunteers

Wesley Free Methodist Church loves to see people involved as a body of believers. There are many ways to do so within Student Ministries; prayer, resources, monetary donations, and of course time with the students are all ways to help Wesley’€™s Student Ministries to be successful impacting lives.

Youth Group Events

Each month, we try and plan something our students will enjoy doing together.   This helps build relationships, which help create a sense of belonging.   We want all our students to know they are loved.

College/Career Ministries

We are part of a generation as 20-somethings that craves deep relationships. As Christians, we long for authentic relationships that help us build one another up in Christ and work together to make a difference. College and Careers is specifically designed to satisfy that craving. We hope to see you come be a part of this group.

Upward Basketball

Upward Sports, the world’s largest Christian sports league for children, provides a fun kids sports experience based on healthy competition. Upward focuses on the fundamentals and basics of basketball technique. Wesley offers this great program Jan-March yearly. The children practice once a week while playing games on Saturday.

Students operate the Concession Stand for Wesley’€™s Upward season. The games are every Saturday, January 28 through March 17. This is a great chance for students to earn money for Student Ministries’€™ activities. Students can work in the concession stand, referee, or run the clock. They all pay the same! We are eager to see many students serving children and their
families, and having fun while doing it.

There is also a need for adults to assist and supervise the teens in the afternoon each Saturday. Contact the church office if you are interested.
